Tortoise is one of the main characters of Tinga Tinga Tales. He appears in every episode. Tortoise's best friend is Elephant. The other animals constantly step on his shell, and he is sometimes mistaken to be a rock. Tortoise used to like racing against Hare. He used to be very fast, but after his shell was broken, he never ran fast again. Tortoise always has a suggestion for Lion.

Tortoise is green with yellow eyes and toes. His shell is big and it has numerous colorful broken pieces.

In an earlier version of Tortoise's design, his colors were much more dull, and his shell was more flat and had a lot less pieces.
